What kind of church is THE WELL?
THE WELL exists to glorify Jesus and inspire you to love, serve, follow, obey and enjoy Him forever...
The whole "What KIND of church is this?" question is a tough one to answer--which is difficult--because it's likely to be one of the first questions you ask and one of the first questions anyone you invite to come check us out is likely to ask.
We better dig deep and find an answer...
There's one answer, and probably the best one we'll ever come up with.
THE WELL is a church that's about Jesus.
There would be no Church (big 'C' because it refers to the Worldwide Church Universal) or church (small 'c' because it refers to every local church there is in every city or town anywhere in the World) without Jesus.
The Church and our church exist because of Jesus and for Jesus.
Two pastors I admire have come up with a good definition. I'll track it down for you.
The shot you see up there of 'Baby Jesus' is the actual 'baby jesus' from our Israeli-made (how ironic is that?) nativity set. Last Christmas--the first where our baby Zoe (one and a half at the time) could wreak her own special brand of havoc on our Christmas decorations--Baby Jesus went missing. My kids 'found' him this spring near buried in our backyard.

Point is.
THE WELL is a church that's going to try to not lose Jesus.
So many churches are focused on things other than Jesus. Some examples would be:
-A church that focuses on making the story of Jesus 'palatable' to people who've never heard of him.
-A church that focuses on making christianity 'tolerant' above anything else.
-A church that focuses on christian behavior as almost as important as Jesus' behavior.
-Churches that focus on their tradition above all else.
-Churches focused on being 'culturally relevant'.
-Churches for families or churches for singles or churches for people who believe Christianity ought to be worked out in a certain way.
All kinds of churches.
And many of those churches would do some good things and--to be sure--THE WELL is going to get, and do, many things wrong.
The point of it all is that it all needs to be about Jesus.
Jesus.
A friend of mind put it this way.
"We're a band with one song. That's it. We just keep playing it until He comes to shut us up."
Jesus.
We love Jesus. We're learning to love people.
That's the kind of church THE WELL is.
